Dissolved Oxygen (DO)

Online measurement of dissolved oxygen is required in a number of applications but most commonly found in wastewater treatment.

Optical DO sensors work on the basis of fluorescence quenching, which is the result of an energy transfer between a fluorescing chromophore and oxygen molecules. The more oxygen present in the sample, the more the signal is quenched and the amount of oxygen in the water can be quantified. This is a more responsive and less prone to drift than polargraphic based measurements.

River Water Pollution Monitoring

This truly spectacular case study demonstrates what can be achieved using s::can sensors in a complete water quality monitoring station setup. In this case, the s::can system was designed to capture pollution events along the entire length of a river to both define the baseline water quality, and identify point sources of pollution.

s::can sensors ensure water quality in Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS)

RAS are finely balanced ecosystems, requiring careful control of the water quality to maximise yields and avoid a catastrophic loss of stock. Utilising simple pH and dissolved oxygen(DO) control sometimes isn’t sufficient and in this case study researchers utilised the UV spectro::lyser’s capability to monitor nitrate, nitrite, total organic carbon(TOC) and suspended solids(TSS).
